The 2007 BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle
When BMW introduced the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle in 2000, they introduced both a vehicle unlike anything on the road and one that would come to define a new category. The X5 combined the precision handling and brilliant performance of a sports car with the versatility and safety of a sport utility vehicle, while staying true to the elegant design, tasteful luxury and premium quality expected of a BMW product.
The X5 was the first truly global BMW project and was rated a "Best Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2000, earning the highest rating for any vehicle ever tested by the Institute at the time. The all-new 2007 BMW X5 raises the bar to an even higher standard. Powerful eight and six-cylinder engines, unique suspension, enhanced xDrive all-wheel-drive technology, as well as weight-optimized body with extreme torsional stiffness, all interact to ensure excellent agility and dynamic performance.
The new BMW X5 is the only vehicle in the segment available with both Active Steering and AdaptiveDrive (a combination of Active Roll Stabilization and Electronic Damping Control), developed by BMW, as well as the first in its category to be equipped with runflat tires as standard equipment. A third-row seat is also optional.
The new X5 is available in the U.S. with either a 4.8-liter V8 capable of producing 350 horsepower or a 3.0-liter inline-six with 260 horsepower.
