BMW ITRC

Located on the Clemson University ICAR campus in Greenville, SC, stands the BMW Information Technology Research Center. Completed in the summer of 2005, the BMW ITRC is an 84,000 sq. ft. building dedicated to the research and verification of advanced automobile information technology projects.

Equipped with six secure research zones, a data center and a research lab with operating theaters, the BMW ITRC is well suited for comprehensive research and study. The building setup allows easy adjustment and great flexibility for a continual interchange of projects and research groups.

During the 12-month construction of the building, great care was taken to create a facility that would cause minimal impact on the surrounding environment while also creating a workspace that could foster innovative thinking. The exterior of the building was designed to resemble the clean, streamlined form typical of BMW. It also incorporates a signature sawtooth window feature that creates a connection with BMW’s unique approach to architectural design. Furthermore, the interior was laid out to be a flexible and user-friendly workspace for researchers from across the globe.
